The Novice by Taran Matharu REVIEW

**Summoner series: Book One**
Summary:

He can summon demons. But can he win a war?

Fletcher is working as a blacksmith's apprentice when he discovers he has the rare ability to summon demons from another world.
Subsequently chased from his village for a crime he did not commit, Fletcher must travel with his demon, Ignatius, to an academy for adepts, where the gifted are taught the art of summoning.
Along with nobles and commoners, Fletcher endures grueling lessons that will prepare him to serve as a Battlemage in the Empire's war against the savage Orcs. But sinister forces infect new friendships, and rivalries are formed at this school. With no one but Ignatius by his side, Fletcher must decide where his loyalties lie. As he soon learns, the fate of the Empire is in his hands...

My Thoughts:

This has been on my to-read list for a while but I only got to it now.
The book sounded cool and interesting, and I guess the only reason I thought that is because I got into Black Butler...
It's a good fantasy novel, not the best I've read, but better than others.
Fletcher somehow made enemies with someone in his village by existing. His enemy tries to kill him one night, the same night he found out he could summon demons, and Ignatius attacked his attacker without Fletcher's consent, leaving him injured or dead? He runs away for this.
He makes friends at the academy but some become enemies because the nobles there don't like commoners, and they were hanging out with them.
At the end is a cliffhanger: people arrest him for attempted murder of the boy who tried to kill him in his village.

My Rating: 4.5 stars
