The Iron King by Julie Kagawa REVIEW

Summary:

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school . . . or at home.
When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.
But she could never have guessed the truth--that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face . . . and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

My Thoughts:

I haven't read a good fantasy novel in a long time (since Siren's Song) and this one was so good.
It is very much full of adventure and a tiny bit of romance.
The characters are well developed and the story is well written.
I really enjoyed this book a lot.

My Rating: 5 stars

Light of the Last by Chuck Black REVIEW

Summary:

After an accident left him temporarily blind, Drew Carter didn't just regain his sight. He now sees what others can't imagine--an entire spiritual realm of mighty beings at war.
Forget the gift, Drew just wants his life back. Part of that involves Sydney Carlyle, a woman he is inexplicably drawn to. When he's offered the chance to become a CIA agent, it seems a way to redeem his past. The only problem--his visions of the supernatural realm are increasing in frequency.
It's up to the warrior angel Validus and his hand-picked team of heavenly agents to protect the unbelieving Drew. Validus now knows that the young man is at the epicenter of a global spiritual war, and the angels must use a millennia of battle experience to keep Drew alive, for the Fallen want him dead.

Surrounded by spiritual warriors and targeted by demons, Drew's faced with an impossible decision that will forever alter the destiny of America . . . and his own soul.

My Thoughts:

I wasn't sure what to think about this book. I didn't really enjoy the beginning, and it was kind of boring, but then it got a lot better.
There was fighting and a sort of love story all mixed together.
There was also a lot of cool technology used.
This book was ok. It wasn't my favorite, and I probably won't read it again, but it was alright.

The Conjurer's Riddle by Andrea Cremer REVIEW

**Sequel to The Inventor's Secret**
Summary:

Charlotte may have left the Floating City, but she's not out of danger yet. On the run from the British Empire's clutches, she leads her group of exiles west and south, plunging into a wild world of shady merchants and surly rivermen on the way to New Orleans.
But the more Charlotte learns about the revolution she has championed, the more questions she has. As she and her friends get to know the hidden tunnels that run below New Orleans, home to criminals, assassins, and pirates, and head deep into the mystical bayou surrounding the city, Charlotte must make a decision.
Do the revolution's goals justify their means, or are some things too sacred to sacrifice?

My Thoughts:

This was a really good sequel to The Inventor's Secret. It was well written, and the plot was interesting.
The love triangle thing was kind of weird--why do so many books have them? I didn't think this book really needed one at all.
The cover is also really cool.
The end was a cliffhanger, so i will definitely read the next book when it comes out.

Love Without Limits by Nick Vujicic REVIEW

Summary:

Even though he was born without arms or legs, Nick Vujicic created a "ridiculously good life." But after dating disappointments and failed relationships, he reached his mid-twenties worried that he would never find a woman to love him and share his life.
Then Nick met Kanae and everything changed. But even with undeniable chemistry, they would have to navigate twists and turns worthy of a romantic comedy before becoming "one" in marriage.
In Love Without Limits, Nick and Kanae tell how they improbably found each other, fell in love, and then fought to overcome skepticism from others about their relationship. Filled with practical insights that will benefit any couple, this inspiring book describes a godly courtship and the early years of the Vujicics' marriage and parenting journey.
Above all, Love Without Limits is an inspiring reminder that when Christ is at the center of a relationship--even with serious challenges--true love will triumph.

My Thoughts:

This book was pretty interesting.
It tell the real-life story of a man who was born without arms or legs and how he found love.
It is also pretty inspiring. It sort of says "anyone can find true love".
Some of it was a little boring.
But for the most part, it was good and interesting.
I don't really know what else to say about it though . . . .

My Rating: 4.5 stars

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard REVIEW

Summary:

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble--as two desperate young women know all too well.
Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It's a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.
Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her--but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast to one of reckless adventure,  where she is a cool, wary balance to Safiya's hot-headed impulsiveness.
Safiya and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship's captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

My Thoughts:

Well this book was okay.
The beginning was boring, but then it got better. Some of it was kind of confusing. And it said there was romance, but there wasn't until about three-fourths into the book.
Then it got boring again.
And then it ended.
I would read another book, if there is going to be one, but this book was not my favorite.

The Inventor's Secret by Andrea Cremer REVIEW

Summary:

Charlotte has lived on the edge of Britain's industrial empire, hiding deep in the Catacombs, ever since she can remember. She and her fellow refugees are preparing for the day when they can join the Resistance and fight against the crown. But when an exile with no memory seeks shelter in their camp, he brings with him new dangers and secrets about the terrible future that awaits them all.
His presence compels them to leave the safety of the Catacombs to seek answers in Britannia's exquisite Floating City. But Charlotte find more than just answers there, and navigating a world of high society and political intrigue turns out to be more treacherous than the revolution itself.

My Thoughts:

I love steampunk. Not just the fashion, but also the books, which is why i picked this book up. (i someday hope to be able to make a steampunk costume, too).
Anyway, this book was pretty good and very interesting. i know there is a sequel, but is it a series? i don't know. i would definitely read it, though.
Some downsides of this book are:
-some things are not explained (hopefully the sequel will explain them)
-for some reason, THE BOOK LEFT OFF ON A CLIFFHANGER. not necessarily bad, but i hate waiting until i get my hands on the next book.

Brooklyn on Fire by Lawrence H. Levy REVIEW

Summary:

After closing a case with the Brooklyn Police Department, Mary Handley is determined to become an official detective in her own right. And when Emily Worsham shows up at Mary's new office convinced that her uncle was murdered, Mary's second assignment begins.
As she investigates, Mary soon finds herself entangled in a high-stakes family scandal, political corruption, untrustworthy sources, and an unexpected romance with a central member of New York's elite--offering a life of luxury Mary fears she could get used to.

My Thoughts:

This book started out good.
Then it got boring.
Then it got confusing.
Then it got good again.
And then it got inappropriate.
While the mystery parts were sometimes interesting, everything else I didn't like.
I do not recommend this book at all.

A Daring Sacrifice by Jody Hedlund REVIEW

My Thoughts:

This book was awesome.
I loved it.
It was sort of like Robin Hood, but Robin Hood being a girl, not a man.
There was romance, but it wasn't terrible.
The story was very well written and interesting.

Amish Sweethearts by Leslie Gould REVIEW

Summary:

For years Zane Beck and his Amish neighbor Lila Lehman were best of friends. But just as Zane gathered the courage to discover if their friendship could develop into something more, her controlling father arranged for her to be courted by their bishop's son. Zane, heartbroken and frustrated, joined the army, running away from his shattered dreams.
The passing of time and the distance between Zane and Lila haven't been enough to halt their--now completely hidden--feelings for each other. Any hope for their love grows even more impossible though as Zane's service takes a dangerous turn when he's deployed to Afghanistan. Being on the frontline, confronted with the hard choices of war, has him questioning everything, including whether he can continue to serve or not. But all choices have consequences, and with Lila preparing to marry another, will these one-time sweethearts ever find the life together that they both still long for?

My Thoughts:

This was actually really good. I enjoyed the look into Amish lifestyle and into the life of a soldier in the army . . .
The thing is, I don't think Lila ever really confessed her love for Zane until the end . . . so it doesn't really say that she loves him before the end, it just shows her missing him.
But this book was still really good.
