Death Riders by Justin Richards REVIEW

My Thoughts:

This book was better than Heart of Stone, the previous Doctor Who novel that I reviewed.
But it still wasn't amazing.
A space monkey is controlling a human. It wants to eat the humans at the fair.
The Doctor, Amy, and Rory must stop it.
Like I said, this book was good, but not the best.

My Rating: 3 stars

Heart of Stone by Trevor Baxendale REVIEW

My Thoughts:

This book was okay. It wasn't amazing at all.
The Doctor, Amy, and Rory land in a farm. Moonstone appears there. A rock man can turn anything it touches into stone.
I think I might have liked it better if it was an actual Doctor Who episode.
It wasn't that exciting to read, but maybe if I watched it I would have liked it better.

My Rating: 1 star

System Wipe by Oli Smith REVIEW

My Thoughts:

This book was pretty good, but it wasn't extraordinary.
Some of it just wasn't explained well enough.
The Doctor, Amy, and Rory find themselves at the end of the world.
Robots are coming to destroy and recreate the world.
There is a game where the humans are gone but their avatars are still there and working on their own.
They must save both worlds before they are all dead.
The avatar concept reminded me of Sword Art Online (an anime series).
It was good, but not my favorite.

Deep Time by Trevor Baxendale REVIEW

Summary:

"I do hope you're all ready to be terrified!"

The Phaeron travelled among the stars using roads made from time and space, but left only relics behind when they disappeared over a million years ago. But what actually happened to the Phaeron?
In the far future, humans discover the last Phaeron road--and the Doctor and Clara join the mission to see where it leads. Each member of the team knows exactly what they're looking for--but only the Doctor knows exactly what they'll find.
Because only the Doctor knows the true secret of the Phaeron: a secret so terrible and powerful that it must be buried in the deepest grave imaginable . . .

My Thoughts:

This book was really good. In fact, it was even better than  Royal Blood and Big Bang Generation.
What the crew really finds is the Glamour--which can make you think that anything is possible and can take over you. These Doctor Who novels (Royal Blood, Big Bang Generation, Deep Time) all have something about the Glamour in them, and I just happened to read them in the right order . . . But they can be read as stand-alone books, too. This book was very interesting and better written than the previous books.
-But there was some swearing.
-Some of it was pretty repetitive.

My Rating: 4.5 stars

Big Bang Generation by Gary Russel REVIEW

Summary:

"I'm an archaeologist, but probably not the one you were expecting."

Imagine everyone's surprise when a time portal opens up in Sydney Cove. Imagine their shock as a massive pyramid now sits beside the Harbour Bridge, glowing with energy. Imagine their fear as Cyrrus, "the mobster" Globb, Professor Horace Haanson, and alien assassin Kik arrive. Finally, imagine everyone's dismay when a bunch of con artists turn up to spring their greatest grift yet.
This gang consists of Legs, Dog Boy, Shortie, Da Trowel, and their leader, Doc, who is busy making sure the universe isn't destroyed.
And when someone accidentally reawakens the Ancients of Time - which, Doc reckons, wasn't the wisest or best-judged of actions - things get a whole lot more complicated . . .

My Thoughts:

The book starts out with the Doctor meeting a character he knows but we don't know on Legion. Most of the book is about the gang trying to put the pyramid back where it is supposed to be, but there is talk about something inside it, which they don't find out or explain. The book doesn't mention a lot of the stuff in the summary until very late in the book. The characters in the "gang" don't actually have the names mentioned in the summary, they used them once to not tell someone their actual names.
And near the end, it seems like they can't make things right . . . until the Ancients show up.

Negative Content:
-There was some swearing.

My Rating: 3 stars

Royal Blood by Una McCormack REVIEW

Summary:

"The Grail is a story, a myth! It didn't exist in your world! It can't exist here!"

The city-state of Varuz is falling. The capital is crumbling, and his enemies are poised to invade. Duke Aurelian is preparing to gamble everything on one last battle. So when a holy man, the Doctor, comes to Varuz from beyond the mountains, Aurelian asks for his blessing in the war.
But all is not what it seems. The city-guard have lasers for swords, and the halls are lit by electric candlelight. Aurelian's wife and his trusted knight seem to be plotting to overthrow their Duke, and Clara finds herself drawn into their intrigue . . .
Will the Doctor stop Aurelian from going to war? Will Clara's involvement in the plot be discovered? Why is the enemies ambassador so nervous? And who are the ancient and weary knights claiming to be on a quest for the Holy Grail . . .?

My Thoughts:

This book was written in a different way than I am used to. It isn't terrible, but it would switch the narration from third person to first person without a warning, which made it a bit confusing.
The beginning was kind of boring, but it got better later on.
A lot of it was either confusing or not explained enough.
The story was interesting, but the knights aren't actually searching for the Holy Grail, they're searching for for The Glamour (???), which no one really knows a lot about.

My Rating: 4 stars
