My Thoughts:

I started to read this book because I have heard that it's really good. The beginning was sort of interesting, but then it sort of dragged on until about halfway through, when it got really interesting, and at the end, where it left on a cliffhanger.

I have never read the author's other books (are they needed to understand the Grisha people?) but when I am able to, I think I will read them.

This book was amazing.

Miriam by Mesu Andrews REVIEW

My Thoughts:

This book was kind of slow at first, and then picked up about one third of the way through.
Miriam is able to interpret dreams and talk to El Shaddai for some of the book, until He decides to talk through Moses, which kind of left Miriam broken inside.
This book was interesting and gave insight as to what may have happened through Miriam's eyes, although some of it dragged on and got kind of boring.

The Siren's Dance by Amber Belldene REVIEW

My Thoughts:

While this book sounded interesting from the description, it proved to be not so interesting later on. 

The beginning of this novel was very interesting and mysterious, but the romance kind of took that away for most of the rest of the book.

The girl is a ghost, who died when trying to escape killers but ended up in the river dead. The man is a police officer and is charged with the task of finding Stas Demyan, who, when she kills him, she will be set free (not to be human, but rest in peace). She ends up liking the officer, and he likes her. It turns out Stas is a demon. They end up defeating him together.

While the overall plot of this book was interesting, most of it ended up being not so interesting, probably because the romance took up most of the book, not the actual story.

Playing the Part by Jen Turano REVIEW

Summary:

While Lucetta has no interest in Abigail's matchmaking machinations, she can't ignore the strange things going on in Bram's house and the secrets he hides. As the hijinks and hilarity that Bram, Lucetta, and their friends are swept into take a more dangerous turn, can they accept who they are behind the parts they play in time to save the day?

My Thoughts:

This book was pretty good. Although it isn't my favorite, I really enjoyed it. It has a lot of humor and playfulness in it, but also some serious stuff, like when her stepfather gambles away her estate then finds out that Lucetta owns the estate and won't give it to him, so he tries to give her away for his debt. So Lucetta runs away.

It was kind of awkward when Bram would randomly propose to Lucetta when she says she's not interested in him . . .

And later in the book, the man whom her stepfather lost to kidnapped her to make her his mistress after she refused him, but she escapes.

My Rating: 3.5 stars

The Quality of Silence by Rosamund Lupton REVIEW

Summary:

This is the story of Yasmin, a beautiful, troubled astrophysicist and her precious, deaf ten-year-old daughter, Ruby, who arrive in a remote part of Alaska only to learn that Ruby's father, Matt, has been the victim of a catastrophic accident. Unable to accept his death as truth, Yasmin and Ruby set out into the hostile tundra to find him. They grow increasingly isolated with each frozen mile they cover as their search takes them deeper and deeper into the endless Alaskan night. Mother and daughter discover unknown strength as they press on, convinced that Matt is still alive. But as the arctic winter tightens its grip, Yasmin realizes that someone is out there trying to stop them, who is tracking them relentlessly through the soundless dark.

My Thoughts:

This isn't the genre I usually read, but this book was really good.

It turns out that Matt really is still alive and someone killed all the villagers on purpose, and doesn't want that story to be public.

Ruby is probably my favorite character. She might be deaf, but she's really strong inside, and that trait is shown various times throughout the book. She often uses sign language, other times uses a computer to talk for her, and doesn't use her real voice much, because she can't hear it, and she doesn't want to sound weird.

As I said before, this book was amazing. Not as amazing as other books I've read, but still amazing.
