Mechanica by Betsy Cornwell REVIEW

Summary:

Nicolette's awful stepsisters call her "Mechanica" to demean her, but the nickname fits: she learned to be an inventor at her mother's knee. Her mom is gone now, though, and the Steps have turned her into a servant in her own home.
Then, on her sixteenth birthday, Nicolette discovers a secret workshop in the cellar and begins to dare to imagine a new life for herself. Could the mysterious books and tools hidden there--and the mechanical menagerie, led by a tiny metal horse named Jules--be the key to escaping her dreary existence? With a technological exposition and royal ball on the horizon, the timing might just be perfect for Nicolette to earn her freedom at last.

My Thoughts:

Wow. I loved this book!
It's a steampunk retelling of Cinderella.
I very much enjoyed reading this book and I wish that I was still reading it!!!
The only problems were: the prince and the ending.
The prince is actually Nicolette's friend and he acts as if he likes her--but he apparently doesn't like her like that.
The ending was weird. It didn't even resolve the problems with her Steps.
One of the things she would need in the future to keep working was "cursed" but that was never explained or resolved either.

My Rating: 4 stars
